A Strong Lokpal Bill is any "typical" party's suicide pact

13:40 Jul 30 2011 Bangalore, India

Description
The Congress has successfully enrolled all the parties into what they would already be enrolled: A Strong Lokpal Bill is any "typical" party's suicide pact".

That the bill will be introduced is the "commitment" the Congress will keep for the sake of survival.

Atleast that is the first time the bill enters the Lok Sabha in its 15 year history. It is an achievement of the IAC movement.

But the IAC movement is still pussyfooting with trying to convince political parties to support their version. One success has, no doubt been, Nitish Kumar. But then he's an exception, not the rule. The IAC has plans for conducting a nationwide referendum. But so has the Government! It has reportedly commissioned a leading pollster to conduct the survey. While the IAC will use citizens, in true democratic style.

But what's the point? Is there any doubt in any one's mind that the people are fed up and want a strong anti-corruption dispensation? Obviously not; atleast as far as the large majority are concerned. The few who are "insiders" will resist, as will all typical political parties.

So what difference will a survey make?
